Greg, I'm in CT. The cost difference to go to the triple pane with low-e and krypton was $50. Thermal overkill... possibly, but for $50 the price wasn't bad. The upgrade also included a full lifetime warranty on the complete window, including glass breakage. The other thing is that the window blocks...

Greg, I had the very same concern. I just started the install process today. The triple pane definately look dark when you are looking at the sample in your living room... but once they were installed, they looked very nice. FYI - I am having the Simonton Impressions 9800 triple pane installed... ma...

?

Where in CT. I am actually having the Simonton Impressions 8500 triple pane installed next week. 26 windows, including a picture and a double casement for roughly $10,500... I don't have the exact # handy. That is including all of the new wrapping and removal of old windows and storms.

Bill - thanks for the technical specs. Has anyone had these windwos put in... with the triple pane system? I was wondering it you had any complaints with how dark they looked. The window looks like it is tinted a little. The window that Bill described - with "two air latches" - does that m...

The triple pane option... I'm not sure... I think that was still with argon.

Any other recommendations or experiences from anyone?

Is it worth upgrading to the triple pane on these windows. They are charging $50/window to upgrade to triple pane. I think that the window looks a little too dark and is quite a bit heavier to lift than a double pane.

Your thoughts?

Depends on the humidity in the room. Do you have a humidifier running? From the Simonton site: Q. What causes condensation on windows? A. Condensation, or "sweating," is a natural occurrence on all windows and is caused by excess humidity, or invisible water vapor, present in the air. When...

I'm in CT as well and have been shopping around a little. You can actually get the Harvey Slimlines install fairly inexpensively. The contractor that I am thinking about going with would install those for $199 each... and I think that included the exterior wrapping. I think that price included the g...

Certainteed Bryn Mawr II or Simonton Impressions 9800

Pricing is very similar. Which is the better choice? I am in CT.

The other option is the Harvey Classic. Should I even be considering the Harvey? or are the other two better windows?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I don't know how wide your opening is... but keep in mind that the center part of the frame, at least on the replacement casements that I have seen, are approx. 6 or more inches. That's including the the frames on the actual windows too... so you lose a little bit of view there.

The sliders that I have seen installers recommend almost look like a double hung on its side. For locks, they usually have 2 locks positioned in the same places that a double hung would have. You may want to check that if that may be an issue for you.

I've heard that it is a little more difficult to do a good job at insulating if you are doing the install from the outside - is that true?

have you looked at the Harvey Slimline's. They are supposedly similar in efficiency ratings to their classic line, but have more glass.

If you go with a slider, there us a much smaller piece of vinyl obsrtucting your view in the middle of the window. Another pro to going with a slider is price... it's usually about 1/2 the cost of a casement. We are debating the same situation. The one thing that my wife didn't like is that from the...
