Re: Sunrise Windows vs Milgard
For what it is worth, I just posted some comments about the Milgard on the Window Questions board. It is a good window, but if you value fit and finish, go with the Sunrise. It is a night and day difference. The Milgard Tuscany is one of the most "utilitarian" windows I looked at.

Re: Window advice needed in Colorado
Hi: I've looked at many window choices here in CO and can offer my opinions. First of all, I have not encountered Ultimate or Weather Barrier. Are these manufacturer names or model names? I ended up going with 18 Simonton 5500 windows. After literally months of looking at choices, I felt the Simonto...

Re: Windows to Choose
Hi: I'm not an installer, but became a very educated consumer so I hope I can help you with some questions. A lot of my education was due to the kindness of many professional installers and other consumers here on this board. I was so glad to have found this site when I was shopping. If you are inte...

Re: Windows to Choose
Hi: I looked at the AMSCO series, but I think the Studio is their entry-level window. Check out their Artisan if it fits your budget. They can also supply a laminated window for extra noise reduction/security it that is of any value. Overall, I thought Amsco makes a good window and they use Cardinal...

low expansion foam - can we have a poll?
Hello everyone: I will be foaming my windows and would be curious to know what all the pros are using on this board. Can we have a poll and some indication of satisfaction? The choices my local suppliers have are: Dow Great Stuff Window/Door Pro Hilti (is this made by Henkel?) OSI Henkel TeQ My DuPo...

Thanks WOW:
Do you have a preference between Teq and Great Stuff window/door Pro? Do you know if the Great Stuff Pro 13 or 14 gun will work with the Teq cannisters?

OSI TeqFoam window and door - anyone try?
Hi all:
I was wondering if anyone has used the OSI TeqFoam product. I was going to use the Dow Window and Door, but I like that the OSI product has GreenGuard certification for children and schools (ie, tested for offgassing).

Re: Dow Great Stuff foam or backer rod/caulk?
Thanks everyone. WOW.. by closed cell injection foam, you are talking low expansion foam from a cannister, right? Does Great Stuff window and door Pro fall in this category? I bought one of their Pro guns to use with the cannisters. What I will do is used the Great Stuff pro in spots I can insert th...

Re: Dow Great Stuff foam or backer rod/caulk?
Thanks: For tight spaces along the vertical sides, is closed cell or soft, open cell better? I talked with some folks that make backer rod and was told soft cell (which in reality has a closed cell skin and soft cell interior) is better for variable gaps because you can compress it better than close...

Re: Dow Great Stuff foam or backer rod/caulk?
Thanks everyone: For areas where I can't insert the foam gun or straw, do I just caulk between the Tyvek flap and the window frame? In other words, the caulk bead seal will be on the interior side of the window, bridging the Tyvek flap to the frame, as opposed to back up against the back side of the...

Re: Simonton 7300 series vs. Milguard Tuscany
Hi:
I looked at both Milgard and Simonton and thought the fit and finish of the Simonton was head and shoulders above Milgard. They will both perform well, but from an aesthetics standpoint, I think you will like the Simonton a whole lot better.

Dow Great Stuff foam or backer rod/caulk?
Hello everyone: Many of you were very helpful towards steering me towards selecting the Simonton 5500 sliders. They are now all installed and I am happy with them. I followed a new construction style approach (nail fin flange) and had siding replaced, so I followed the DuPont instructions for first ...

Re: question for installers - sill plate membrane/sill pan
Thanks WOW. Any comments/opinions about using something like JamSill or Dow sill pans in addition to DuPont membrane flashing for the sill plate?

Re: question for installers - sill plate membrane/sill pan
Thanks. WOW, when you say to inject the foam before pushing the window all the way back, do you mean foam can be injected with a nail fin flange window from the exterior of the home? I thought the only way to do this was to install the window (with caulk on the backside of the fin flange) and then f...
