Do you tip window installers - tipping $$ installers
Hi, what is the rule of thumb when it comes to tipping window installers? I know it is probably appreciated but not expected. But what would be considered a reasonable tip for replacement window installers putting in two days of labor (14 windows)? I know that one of the guys is on the payroll at th...

Re: Surnise restorations - sash is bowing - why?
Thank you all for your input. I now have some good questions to ask when I speak with our window dealer.

Re: What to look for when they are installing?
Hey, just for the record I was not suggesting that a homeowner should micro-manage the project. I know that when putting things in text form the message can be miss-interpreted. For that I apologize. I, for one, am not qualified to micro-manage any window project. But knowing what I know now, I can ...

Re: Surnise restorations - sash is bowing - why?
Here is the current read on the bowing on the sashes at my folks house: according to the window dealer / installer he said that after examining them and comparing them to his showroom samples, and his hand samples (the same ones he displayed to us in our home during the sales visit) they all have th...

Re: Surnise restorations - sash is bowing - why?
That's my dad holding the ruler, (I wasn't there to witness this) yes it does look like it's on the rail and then over the lock. I think he's trying to show that with the ruler on the lock, the window is even...if he placed it continually across the rail then it shows the bowing. Don't know for sure...

Re: What to look for when they are installing?
Eco - I agree with everything you are saying and appreciate your approach on how you do business with customers. I don't want to go on and on about our Pella experience, it's done and over (almost). But I have to mention how our Pella salesgirl did her presentation to us. She couldn't get the Imperv...

Re: What to look for when they are installing?
I would also like to say that hopefully during a lifetime a person won't be needing to repeatedly install replacement windows over and over. Maybe twice, maybe more if you move from home to home. When we chose Impervias for our home, this was the first time we ever had to do replacements. I agree th...

Re: Surnise restorations - sash is bowing - why?
Thanks guys - apparently the bowing problem on the bottom sashes was detected on all of the windows. We will wait until the salesperson/technician can review. I will post their findings and solutions as soon as I hear.

Re: What to look for when they are installing?
Hello, The "observation" of how the work is done should always be conducted in the most professional manner. After what we went through with one of the most established window companies in the USA, and after talking to other tradesman, we do know the we not only have the right but also the...

Re: Surnise restorations - sash is bowing - why?
My father has not asked the window installer yet, this just happened, was noticed this weekend. He will be calling the guy tomorrow, I thought I would ask the question here first to see if there could be a reasonable explanation for the problem.

Re: What to look for when they are installing?
Hi, based on our Pella experience, you SHOULD be standing over the installers shoulders. Not in a rude way, but ask them questions as they are performing the work. We stayed away from our Pella installers when they were putting in Impervias to not bother them. Not only did they not use insulation al...

Surnise restorations - sash is bowing - why?
Hi, can anyone help me with this question....my parents had Sunrise restorations installed in their home this past November. My father just noticed that on one of their double-hungs, the top part of the lower sash is starting to bow up. Does anyone know how or why this is happening? We just placed a...

Re: Pella Guarantee - Refund
Hi shims - no, we did not research the Impervia windows before we purchased them. We originally intended to buy vinyl, but the Pella salesperson said she would lower the price of the Impervia's if we bought on the spot, and we liked the less chunky look of the fiberglass option so we went with those...
