Re: Install America poor installation

Contact your local office of consumer affairs (GOVT- NOT BBB!), or your state's home improvement commission. People like this give the true professionals a bad name.

Re: Help Me Spec Simonton Glass Package Please

Apparently he hasn't used EPOPS very much before. What he is clicking is the selection for the ratios for Oriel windows. That's not what he wants. If he calls his Simonton Super Service reps, they'll guide him through the process of how to add the reinforcement to his quote/order. I personally don't...

Re: Anyone heard of 7 D Industries?

go with Simonton - either model. 7D is a wholesaler who sells to lumber yards and their window division could close at the whim of some manager who decides to save money by closing down a division at any time. Simonton is a serious, committed national manufacturer of solid quality windows. Their ser...

Re: soft-lite elements or simonton generations?

Get the Simonton Reflections 5500 window. It's less money and it's essentially the same window as the 9800.

Re: Simonton privacy glass

You can get 5500s with Obscure Glass on top and bottom sashes with the ETC 366 glass package that will make your unit ETC compliant. It will give you the .30 u value. The window will come with Super Spacer and a 1" IG unit thickness.

Re: Help Me Spec Simonton Glass Package Please

No surprise here, but I agree with WoW. I too like the DS glass when I can get it. It's about 1/3 thicker and I personally think (right or wrong) that it gives me a reduced chance of having stress cracks over regular glass. Of course, this was really the case back in the days of the old tube spacers...

Re: Help Me Spec Simonton Glass Package Please

Would the standard glass package with superspacer upgrade be a good option? Will this package with grids meet the ETC requirements? You're looking for the ETC Super Solar package which includes Prosolar Low E, Argon, and Super Spacer. It will yield a DP rating of 25, U factor of .30, and SHGC of .2...

Re: Help on Simonton 5050, 5500 or ViWinco

I'll be one more person to vouch for Simonton customer service over Viwinco. As long as I hit my cut off date, I can have any service parts from Simonton in one week. I recently had to order some replacement glass/sashes from Viwinco and it took nearly 6 weeks to get - AFTER I had to reorder it when...

Re: ultramaxx windows by alsides

Price doesn't even really matter in this case because the window is not very well regarded amongst pros. It is a pocket sill design which is not preferable (more water leak potential), very bulky frame (less glass), and average performance number (air infiltration number is a 0.19 which is horrible...

Re: Help Me Spec Simonton Glass Package Please

I'm just going to throw this out there...

What about laminated glass for the south-facing windows? It's always been my understanding that only laminated glass and Heat Mirror filter out short wave UV rays.

Also, how about a tinted glass?

I'm probably showing my age here...

Re: Dove versus BF Rich

Dove has a HORRIBLE reputation. I wouldn't put them in a doghouse. Given the choice of the two, I would certainly go with BF Rich. Their Cabernet window is a nice, solid unit. Nothing sexy, but a decent value.

Re: A good window is hard to find.

I think it would be worth calling Sunrise and having them put you in contact with their local sales person and having them give you a few names of dealers in your market. Many manufacturers are reluctant to list their dealers on their websites because it provides a free source of leads for their arc...

Re: Dallas - Sunrise vs. Simonton

The Sunrise - Sunrise window is a far superior unit to Simonton. The tolerances that it is made to are impressive. The air infiltration numbers are far better too. But you'll pay a premium for the Sunrise, and you'll wait a couple more weeks for it too. But it's a very fine window. Simonton as a com...
