Re: Gorell vs. Plygem - Need help chosing one

1) Sunrise
2) Gorell
3) Anything else.

I personally think the Sunrise is worth the money.

Re: First Question: When clicking on "Request a quote...."

I would put very little stock in Consumer Reports when it comes to evaluating windows. Their evaluations in the past have been highly suspect to say the least, and should be taken with a grain of salt. Often they compare apples and Volkswagens. Do your own homework and check in with the pros on thes...

Re: Simonton 5500 Reflections Standard Pkg or ETC Starter 366?

Many Simonton distributors are running promotions on ETC366 through the end of March. Jump on it and take advantage of the savings. Some are giving it for free.

You made the right choice - both ways. :)

Which OKNA model did you choose?

Re: TI, simonton, alside, lansing windjammer... HELP!!

Your buddy who quoted you the Windjammer from Lansing Building Products can also sell you the Simonton windows as well. They handle them also. It is my understanding that they are made for them by Atrium - as stated earlier. But given the options, I'd opt for the Simonton personally. Solid company, ...

Re: Looks to be a stress window crack

It is possible - albeit not likely - that the new company may honor the warranty of the old company. It's worth asking. Otherwise, you'll have to do what WoW suggested and contact a local glass company.

Re: Simonton 5500 Help

I was talking to my Ops Mgr about the different foams. He has a preference for the Hilti version. I saw some mention of the OSI version on here and sent him a link to it. He said that his experience with it was that it caused problems clogging the guns moreso than with Hilti and that's why he prefer...

Re: Simonton Generations Series

You can buy the 5500 series which is very, very similar for less money and get almost identical performance. But the bottom line is that the guy is charging you a bunch of money for these things. I do have good things to say about Simonton - especially how they handle their service. They are absolut...

Re: Simonton 5500 Help

WoW, I have to confess to not being up to date on the latest in foam technology. Apparently they've improved the product in recent years. My (dated) experience with it was that it caused problems with the window because it continued to expand and thus would "pinch" the window and hamper it...

Re: Sunrise vs Alside

Based on what I've seen...Sunrise. I don't like the Mercedes against Chevy comparison, but I understand where they are coming from. Ie going to Sunrise you get a higher quality product without the price (per say). My intention with that metaphor was that Alside is very much a large, mass produced w...

I'm with Randy. OKNA makes an OUTSTANDING window and you really should talk to WoW.

Your neighbor is nuts for buying Vytex.

Re: Triple Pane Sash Weight

Sash weight is a standard tool that people use to talk other people out of considering triple glazing. It's unfair because there are some very clear, legitimate benefits that can be gained by employing a triple glazed unit. The balance systems that are used now are virtually all very good and they'r...

Re: Texas- Simonton 5500 vs viewpoint norandex 3000 series

My recommendation would be to contact Sunrise directly and ask their customer service people or ask to talk to the rep that handles your part of the country to give you names of qualified, competent contractors who service your market. Sunrise makes an outstanding window that does offer slim profile...

Re: buying replacement windows

I'm with WoW on this one. I am obviously biased, but I think that you're going to get more value by going with an independent guy than what I could classify as a "marketing" company. This isn't a rule, but many times the reps that come out from those places know very little about windows, ...
