my installing experience
After working as an installer for one day, I have a new appreciation for the guys that install every day. It's not the heat or the physical work that got me, it's the patience required to get the window square and level. It seemed as though every single opening was 1-2" out of square and theref...

Alright, you two have talked me into it. Friday I will be installing windows with one of my crews. Lucky for the customer, my crew will be there to keep me from screwing anything up too badly. By the way, here in Houston 75% of our installations are taking aluminum single pane windows out of brick o...

Your profile doesn't say where you're located Tru_Blue, but if you're up there in the Yankee North, I don't golf until it's at least 70 degrees. You could always come here to Houston if you don't mind golfing in an outdoor sauna. Maybe Guy could join us, he's a Pella fan as well. Since I've never in...

Another Window Guy, I agree with you. Milgard has potential, particularly on their fiberglass line, but after many bad experiences with them, they are going to have to make some significant changes before I would use them again. Their casements and awnings are pretty good, everything else is poorly ...

I think you'll find that Marvin is a consensus favorite on this site, in terms of product quality. Guy likes Pella, but most others here, including myself, consider it overpriced and overrated. Roll formed aluminum cladding should always be avoided, in my opinion. Loewen makes a good window, but it ...

With the temperature norms that you posted, I assume you are in Southern California. If so, I would recommend that you take a look at the SHGC (solar heat gain coefficient) of the windows, rather than looking at the U-Factor only. Chances are, you can get a SHGC of .28 or .29 with double pane glass ...

Anlin is a regional window, so I don't know anything about it. The fact that you have had them before and were happy should be a big plus. It seems like the vast majority of the postings regarding Anlin have been positive. If the Jeld-Wen vinyl windows are the Summit line, run. They are a poor windo...

Tommy, first of all, don't give them any money. If you have to get legal with them, so be it. There is a very good chance that their contract with you is unenforceable. If you want to send me an e-mail, I can discuss this further with you. As to finding a reputable window company in Denton, why not ...

Expanding foam is great, if they know what they're doing with it, and use the right kind of foam. We use Hilti CF 812, which has be tested in accordance with AAMA 812 standards. Basically, they must use a minimal expanding foam, or it could bow the window frames and void the warranties. There are so...

Yes it has been four years since the original installation, and two years since the last update, so I have contacted Jim and here is the reply he has sent me today. "Randy, Andersen did not stand behind their product in any way. They left us out in the cold ...or should I say, the cold in with ...
