Re: Just started looking for windows

First in answer to your tempered question: Basically the above responses are correct, any glass within 18" of the floor needs to be tempered; the exception is as follows: if the glass is less than 9 sq. feet and it's not next to a door way. This is something that most builders know, not window...

Re: Utah Replacement with Stucco Home

You are on a roll lately with the misinformation. The first thing you should do is get a moisture test. Why? Did the original poster ever mention any issues with moisture infiltration or exterior or interior finish issues? Why would they need a water test if the classic signs of interior moisture an...

Re: Replacing Windows Little Rock, AR

Allow me to debunk most of the bunk in Mr. Roger's posting. Seems to be a whole bunch of misinformation from someone who is a supposed expert. I just took a look at your list and I see that you have not included Andersen windows. I would recommend that you check out their site, learn about their win...

Re: Simonton Asure vs. 5500 vs Atrium 123 Slider Windows

Ken--Every Simonton Asure window unit is shipped with an NFRC label that provides details about the thermal and structural performance of that particular window. The Reflections 5500 is still Simonton's premium window and an excellent value. Asure is generally sold at a lesser price point, but stil...

Re: how to clean up the lead dust during installation

Todd,

Can you supply any data or studies on these points you have raised. I would be especially interested as it pertains to the numbers of people poisoned last year and the chronic lead poisoning of installers.

Thanks

Re: SIMONTON WINDOWS Rated #1 in JD Power Study by Bldrs/Remdlrs

Simonton is an option and the higher end windows properly installed are of good quality. I would also look at Okna, Sunrise, and Softlite, cost is roughly the same but they will outperform the Simonton in most areas if not all. When was this a thread about what brands are recommended??? How ...

EcoStar Windows wrote:Atrium, depending on the model, is a better brand overall than Silverline. Sounds to me as if you got exactly what you paid for, lower end windows installed by a hack. I'm sure the price was good though.
What a classless response EcoStar Windows.

Re: SO MANY CHOICES...My head hurts...

Foam is more of a gimmick than a feature. People look at foam and automatically assume great insulation properties. Less reputable companies will inject it into the frame and use it as a selling point. Structurally, the frame is less rigid (as opposed to vinyl with dead air spaces). Virgin vinyl is...

Re: Simonton Platinum vs PGT SpectraGuard 2300

I just recently purchased the PGT Spectraguard vinyl windows. I did A LOT of research before purchasing. I liked them because they had more of a finished look to them and they felt a bit more sturdy then some of the others I felt. I have to say I am very happy with them. My contractor had recommend...

Re: Condensation on new window

Don't let them get away with that! That widnow is leaking thru the seal. Cool on the inside, hot outside. Cold air is migrating thru the seal rolling up and condensing on the outside of the glass. You couldn't be more mistaken and have demonstrated, on 3 posts, you complete lack of understanding on...

Re: Enviroview Windows

Thank you for your responses. Although it seems like this bulletion board is mainly made up of competitors who seem to bash others products. I am not sure about this rebranding you speak of but I checked the NFRC ratings with the company and they showed me that it met all the criteria for the tax c...
