Re: Okna 500 Series Insul-Tec Replacement Windows
Some manufacturers give a flat price for any window up to a certain united inch size (UI = w+H). That is probably how your windows are priced and yes it is normal and acceptable. $465/window is a good deal.

Re: Okna 800, Softlite Elements, Simonton 9800 - Splitting Hairs
This has been an entertaining debate to follow, if nothing else. As a note to consumers, AI is an optional measurement for manufacturers to include on their NFRC product labels. U-factor and SHGC are required. I found a quote from Jim Benney - NFRC Executive Director - on the NFRC website. " Wh...

Re: transom window removal on a vinyl house
What type of material is the window? Vinyl, wood , aluminum? Post a picture if you can. Depending on the age of the windows, they may still be under warranty. A glass company would be able to replace the failed IG units.

Re: Cracks in bottom corners of vinyl window sill.
The cracks could have been caused by trying to tilt the sash without raising it a couple of inches to clear the sill dam. I have seen this happen on other windows for this reason and the cracks occur in the same place and manner.

Re: alleviating window condensation
A good double or triple pane window with a "warm edge" spacer should help reduce your condensation problem although the condensation may not be completely be eliminated. A gas boiler is going to produce a moist heat which will add to the humidity level in your home. Eliminatining the alumi...

Re: windows to be replaced by window world
Biggest doesn't always equate to the best. Window World is a franchised business model so each store is run independent of one another. A store in one location may do a better job than another location. Checkout the store you are dealing with. I do commend Window World for their committment to St. J...

Re: nature of the beast
If you think it is bizarre now you should have tried buying windows 10-15 years ago. No point of reference for consumers at all. That is why NFRC ratings were established in an attempt to put everyone on the same page when comparing window performance. There were also literally thousands of more vin...

Re: Condensation on new window
Any manufacturers warranty I have ever read specifically has a disclaimer stating that condensation on an exposed surface of glass (interior or exterior) is not covered by the warranty. The manufacturer can't control the environment in which the windows are installed.

Re: Soft-Lite Barrington Windows Leaking.
Warm air holds more moisture than cold so its not the cold air condensing. Just the opposite, the warm moist air condenses on the cooler glass surface which is lower than the dew point. No radiant heating from the sun at night so it doesn't take much for the glass to cool below the dew point especia...

Re: Condensation on new window
I have fielded more calls concerning exterior condensation this summer than any other that I can recall. We have had higher temperatures than normal and more rain than in recent years. Humidity has been higher raising the dew point and causing customers who have never experienced exterior condensati...

Re: Tolerance when windows are lock in place
Close and lock the sashes as you described. Push the sashes up into the header pocket. Go to the outside of your home and see if the bottom sash weatherstrip along the bottom rail is making contact with the sill. If you have a gap and no contact then there is a tolerance issue. Contact the manufactu...

Re: help
You may be able to push it back in with your finger or try a plastic screen spline roller (not metal). A screwdriver could be used but may damage the marine glazing.
