Re: what problems might I have with cheaper vinyl windows?
I disagree with not doing business with a company that has been around for less than 5 years. With that logic no new business would ever have a chance to succeed. There are many companies that start-up after a person has worked in an industry for years and takes the initiative to venture out on thei...

Re: CAPITAL 9550 BY MI WINDOWS
If the water comes in at the top and leaks in across the headframe of the window it could be a flashing problem behind the stucco. Hard to say without knowing where you are seeing the water. You could try sealing off the window with plastic and the doing the water test to see if you get any water pe...

Leaking, what? Water? Air? Where? When? Have they always leaked or is this a new issue?

Re: Is everyone ready for the new lead testing requirements?
Thanks for clarifying Bill. I still can't quite understand the logic if larger sources of lead are still present after the window replacement. I don't know about anyone else, but when replacing wood sash DH's, I create very little dust or debris as most of my installs are from the outside. I was als...

Re: Is everyone ready for the new lead testing requirements?
I tend to agree with Integra, in my area alot of pre-1978 homes are desparately in need of window replacement but are either rentals or in low income areas. The owners, I feel, are not going to want or be able to absorb the extra cost that lead abatement will require. On one hand the gov't is offerr...

Re: Carefree Brand Windows Warranty: To File A Defects Claim
kenneigh, While I agree the poster had no reason to call you out, the company that installed the windows had no obligation as to the manufacturing defect with your windows. It is highly unlikely that the installation had anything to do with the cause of the seal failure to the glass. Possible, but h...

Re: Window Sales
Promotions such as, free lowE,grids, etc... Usually come from the window manufacturer and are passed down the line and last for a month or two. Discounts like 25% off or buy 4 get 1 free are used to get your attention. Some dealers do discount prices during the slower times of the year to keep insta...

If you feel they are deserving a tip, then most certainly. Everyone needs a little extra pat on the back from time to time.

Re: Cost to replace rot on frame/sills?
You are certainly entitled to ask if they can lower the price, but roughly $100 to remove and replace the rotten sills and other wood is not an outrageous amount. I actually think that itemizing the wood replacement is a plus and would be more concerned by an estimate that did not spell out any addi...

Re: Very good vinyl replacement windows
So an installer is going to be paid the same for any install regardless of the complexity or amount of work that may be required? What about additional work such as replacing rotten wood, interior or exterior trim that may be needed? How about a fee to make a sight visit to measure? (that may not be...

Re: New England Sash and Schuco - horrible leaky window - HELP!!
Was any additional insulation added to the seatboard? Does the top have a roof or someother soffitt system to enclose the top of the bow? If these have not been done that could at least be part of the issue with cold and draft you feel coming off of the window. The thing to keep in mind is that a bo...

Re: Amsco Artisan - any experiences?
The color change and fading part of their warranty is pretty standard for most if not all manufacturers. Any color is going to change over time naturally as it is exposed to the elements. The chalking should not occur, unless they are still using calcium carbonate in their vinyl compounding. I am no...
