Window4U, We have had similar problems with Therma Tru stained doors and Polaris and in fact most of our door people. We tried the we'll stain it locally route and things got worse, (handling, unpacking, repacking and stain coming off, scratching and on and on ). The only thing that occasionally wor...

I've always thought air infiltration was very important, because obviously you'd like it as low as possible. I have seen a mechanical window and not of the highest quality (vinylume) with a certified air test done in a accredited AAMA testing facility of .01, for a double hung. I know that after not...

Hung out to dry is putting it mildly, it's more like being held up in a dark alley. Lindsay's best window is their 711 series which they may call something else. It is a solid window with nice features including Super Spacer. Just to give you an idea of how high they are, I'm quoting from my Lindsay...

OkieDokieRick, I helped the installers put in four double hungs on Saturday and it's the first and last time we'll use foam in the voids, so I take back my earlier post. It was very time consuming, used a ton of foam, messy, and to make sure we weren't going to bow the existing jambs we kept drillin...

Insulating the pulley pockets is a very important. Using foam is a bit more expensive but does give you the best job. The top pulleys when removed will give the installer access to the top and drilling a few holes in the side jamb can help him complete the task. He might be balking because of the ex...

Any dealer that offers Wells Fargo. GE or American General financing for let's say 30 years (Although that would be silly on $6000.00) would eventually cost the customer between $22,000 and $26,000 depending on the interest rate and much more if they added credit life and disability to the contract....

We have installed close to a hundred in the last four or five years. This Heartland window is made in Aplington, Iowa and not called the Survivor. It is a Mikron extrusion, with minimal exterior caulking as Mikron has quite a few profiles to make uo their bows and bays and does come with a cable sup...

Heartland makes three different windows, their best being the Hartford 712 series. Pluses a .080 master fame made of quality vinyl and a decent air test of .07. Minuses for a start they only offer Intercept and the double hung has a pocket style sill. 50% of the time it works and the other 50% of th...

Thanks for the pic's Window4U, now I'm really confused. A couple of years ago we talked to Norandex and sold a few Simontons. I don't remember the series but we were really impressed with the speed. We let that relationship slip away because of two things the Simonton's we sold back in the mid ninet...

Wow, Dealing with the Demon. I can't wait to see the rest of that story. Good luck with that BEAST. shamu, your points are pretty valid. You forgot let the buyer beware and you pretty much get what you pay for. Were a small window dealer selling 1500-1800 units a year. We advertise any size white do...

Some companies use bait and switch, yes WW and Clear choice. I spent most of yesterday on the phone to our Dept of Consumer Affairs and what both companies do is right on the fringe. The law was intended for those that advertise a product and are conveniently out of it. There are a couple of other a...

sloamq, Champion's window looks nice and has a decent u of .29. Not many white double hungs with just a thermo pane and low-e and argon get that low. I like the window. OK that's the good news. Their marketing is unique in that they always have a sale on from 25%-50% off and yet the net price to the...
