Great forum. I've learned a lot in just a few days.
I live on a fairly busy road and am looking for replacement windows that will eliminate some of the noise in our bedrooms, but are still reasonably priced. I'm looking at STC ratings around 35. Milgard and Harvey make high STC windows, but don't distribute on Long Island, and are probably $$$. Also, my old plaster walls probably have an STC around 40, so the specialty acoustic windows would probably be overkill.
I'm thinking my best bet might be the Simonton 5500 with 1" IG and laminated glass. Simonton ratings show this combo to yeild STC of 35. Any other brand/model suggestions of similar quality/STC rating? ( I don't want to do the interior sound proof type windows either)
