Simonton 6100 Casements

#1 Post by uffda »

I am looking to replace some windows in my house in omaha and I had HD out tonight to give me an estimate. They install Simonton windows I discovered.

I also need to have casement windows installed as part of my neighborhood's covenants.

The bid was for Simonton 6100 -- with argon and low e

I have two - C2 -- two wide casement - 19.5x33.75 (so actually 4 -- two fixed and two that crank out)

two - C2 - two-wide casement - 19.5x64,5 (so actually 4 -- two fixed and two that crank out)

two - C1 - 24x39.75

The total was $5080 --- now I don't know if this is a good price or high or low.
Also any opinions on the 6100 as all I see mentioned on here are the 5500 and 9800?

The casement window is found in the Simonton 6500 line from Depot not the 6100.

Simonton makes one casement window for replacement so the same basic window is used in the 6500, 5500 & 9800 but there are differences in their standard glass systems. What would make the 5500 & 9800 superior is that the glass can be upgraded to Super Spacer for both and triple pane with Super Spacer in the 9800.

The 6500 from Home Depot consists of one glass system only and the Super Spacer is not available.

When it comes to the price Depot is never cheap but the price does not appear to be way out of line. You can typically do better with a Simonton dealer or a contractor who sells Simonton.

I am just going by the flyer he gave me which says 6100 series on it -- as well as the estimate says the same thing

well thanks for the information you did give me.

But you were also wrong on part of it too correct and I was just pointing out what I was given -- HD was selling me the 6100 series

You’re correct I was wrong, I’m sorry, I made a call this morning and there is a 6100 casement. I was told by my sales rep in past that the 6100 series mirrored the product offering of the Reflections 50/50 line that only has double hungs, picture windows and a slider. Casements are only available in the 5500 and 9800 series for us.

Anyway the 6100 series shares the same frame and hardware as the 9800, 5500 & the 6500 the difference is that the standard glass is single strength insulated without low-e/argon. So in its standard form the thermal performance will be sub par and the warranty is not as strong as the 6500 that is standard with double strength insulated glass low-e and argon.

If you upgrade the 6100 with Low-e/argon the window is a good solid mid grade performer with a decent 20 year glass failure warranty.

Some experts on this board will question the quality of the install from Depot. I suppose it’s a bit of a crap shoot from Depot depending on which sub contractor you get.

Everything I wrote above still applies except for the first sentence. You typically can do better with an independent Simonton dealer and you can upgrade the 5500 and 9800 to Super Spacer and the 9800 to triple pane for premium performance. The 9800 is available with the full lifetime warranty with glass breakage.

Thanks for the added information.

There seems to be only two independent dealers and/or installers in my area (Omaha). I have contacted both of them and still waiting to hear back from my initial contact. :?
