Hi,
need some help here. We have four large picture windows that we would like to replace. Mostly to get safety glass ( we have kids) and improve energy efficiency. Our current windows are single pane and anything double would be a great improvement. We want to maximize our view and do not want a chunky frame. We are attracted to Simonton Daylight Max and Milgard Styleline because of thin frames. The pricing is very similar. Which brand would you recommend?
Thank you!

When it comes to picture windows, there is less of a spread in performance metrics.
You don't have to worry about air infiltration with picture windows. I would look critically at design pressure and the companies that are installing either of the products.
As long as everything looks good, either window should work and going with the window that you like the look of is fine.

thank you! One of the windows is XOX. Would it make a difference then? Also, we are replacing our swing patio door. I have two quotes, one for fiberglass and one for vinyl, with the latter being much more expensive. Is there a significant difference?

The vinyl quote was more expensive than the fiberglass?
Also, with your designation of XOX, are you talking about a 3-Lite slider here or a picture window that is flanked by other windows?
Once you bring in the "articulating" windows, the other performance metrics become much more important.

yes, the vinyl swing door (Milgard Tuscany) was over $2K and the fiber glass was around $1,200. The fiberglass brand was ThermaTru.
Yes, it's a 3-Lite slider. We have four large fixed picture windows and one smaller picture window that we want to turn into a 3-lite slider. Or is it a bad idea?

You don't typically see fiberglass being less than the vinyl. Without all the installation and product specs, its tough to say but it is definitely an anomaly.
You can put in those windows as long as there is zero structure between the openings that you are undermining.
