Re: Gorell 5100 vs 5300
Do these add-on costs sound reasonable for the Gorell 5100?
FG Reinforcement - $60/window
Foam filled frame - $12/window
Exterior color change (Bronze) - $120/window
The dealer did say that the exterior color was an enamel paint that Gorell applies at the factory and it is warrantied for 20 years. I am not trying to get the lowest price I can, but I do want to make sure the dealer is being fair.

You might be able to get a better deal on the fg and foam, but everybody structures their pricing different so that may be unfair to say. He may come in really low on his base price and make it up on options rather than having a flat markup. The paint charge on the other hand is on point. Gorell outsources the coating and it is very pricey.

What is the purpose for FG reinforcement on these windows other than to increase the DP?

It adds lineal strength to the meeting rail preventing the dreaded "sag" that some vinyll windows suffer from

Is this something that I should be worried about on the 5100?

I wouldn't.
Gorell wouldn't sell it if it would sag.

I wouldn't worry about any noticeable sag without it (reinforcement), but anytime you can strengthen the meeting rail I like to do so. It is the most common area for air leakage, and also the locks are anchored into it, etc. Even if there is no difference "out of the box", I don't think it would be a stretch to say that a window with a reinforced meeting rail could seal tighter 10 years down the road than one without.

Re: Gorell 5100 vs 5300
what's the approx size for the window opening? Wider ther window the more important it is to have the reinforcements.
Re: Gorell 5100 vs 5300
there are 2 5100 series windows. be sure to choose the 5155 with the welded sloped sill and NOT the pocket sill.

I think you mean to say "and not the pocket sill."ranger wrote:there are 2 5100 series windows. be sure to choose the 5155 with the welded sloped sill and the pocket sill.

Are you saying that the 5100 series with the sloped sill is a 5155 and the other with the pocket sill is a different model?ranger wrote:there are 2 5100 series windows. be sure to choose the 5155 with the welded sloped sill and NOT the pocket sill.

Re: Gorell 5100 vs 5300
The dealer did not show me a 5100 series window with a pocket sill.
Re: Gorell 5100 vs 5300
i'm sure your dealer is on the up and up. just tell him you want a welded slope sill and not a pocket. he may not even know gorell offers a pocket sill.
