Alside Mezzo X Wincore 7700 x Simonton 6100/6500 ... All for the same price

#1 Post by GinC »

Hello,
I have a quote from Home Depot and a quote from a local installer.

Home Depot quoted me roughly 15.2k for 13 windows installed and the local installer will match their price.

HD would be a mix of the Simonton 6100 & 6500.

The local installer is willing to match the price and provide Alside Mezzo or Wincore 7700.

What would you do?

Background:
I live in Omaha, Nebraska.
Currently I have original windows in my 1968 house that are metal with wood trim. They let in so much air the plastic seal blows during the winter.
The local installer claims both Alside and Wincore are way better than the simonton and they are cutting me a deal because they already completed my roof and gutters through their partner company.

I would find better options.

The Simonton window is okay, however box store installs are very hit or miss at best. The pay pennies on the dollar to installers compared to other window replacement companies in my experience, you can judge how the lowest paid installers in town might translate to quality.

As for the other options, the Mezzo is an entry level price point window and the Wincore is kind of a rip-off of the Simonton. The company in question may be very good at roofing and gutters, but it doesn't sound like they are "window guys" based on their offerings.

I'd look for someone offering the mid to upper tier models of Softlite, Sunrise, Okna, or Polaris in your area. A google search would work, although contacting the manufacturers for referral is even better as you can be pretty confident in getting a good, reputable option.

Do you have a rough estimate of how much more I might be paying for those other brands? Is it 10-15%?

Unfortunately I can't. The reason being is that pricing is largely dependent on the individual dealer and their size, business model, etc. The product itself just one of many things that contribute to the price... I can say this, @$15k for 13 windows you are in the normal range (albeit on the lower end with those 3 lite units) of being able to find a very good window from a reputable company.
