On a brick wall, are installers required to use flashing or simply caulking to prevent water intrusion into the brick wall rough surface?
My installer says caulking is good enough?

a good sealant is usually fine for a brick opening.

+1. On a brick opening, whatever (actual) flashing exists is typically done before the brick is installed, meaning that it is not possible to replace in a standard window install. If the window is being downsized or a brickmold trim exists, some aluminum capping would be installed that would integrate into that. Some folks will call that "flashing".

Caulking is appropriate here.
