Please help me communicate with contractor
After very much back and forth with my contractor I am deciding on the Simonton 5500.
My window guy (who has to order the windows for me because I can't order them direct) insists that MI Xact 6500 is the better window. (he must have some kind of exclusive on them)
However, I have read a lot of people with seal problems on MI windows and Simonton seems better in this range.
Anyhoo. I need help telling my guy what glass package I want in the 5500.
I am in the North East (new hampshire) and it gets flipping cold.
I know I want the low-e tax credit thingamabob and I want to get the best insulation with minimal tint and cost.
Any ideas?

Low-e 272 (Pro-Solar) with the super spacer.
MI is no comparison to the Simonton. You guy is not right at all on that one.

Is that configuration much more expensive? I wish I could just buy the damn things direct.
I don't even know how much stuff costs until I go back to my contractor and then I have to hear blah blah blah about MI windows again.
If there is anybody here that can get me these direct in NH I would be very happy!

It's not that much more, the list cost is $28.00 per a double hung window for the glass WOW suggested

Thanks, that sounds like a great compromise between the nasty tint of the low-e windows I have seen and the efficiency I want.Bill wrote:It's not that much more, the list cost is $28.00 per a double hung window for the glass WOW suggested

If I am not mistaken, he will need the super spacer for ETC qualification? Is that right Bill or Sky?Bill wrote:It's not that much more, the list cost is $28.00 per a double hung window for the glass WOW suggested

Re: Please help me communicate with contractor
Well, My contractor got back to me and is telling me that the price of the 5500 DH with Low-e 272 and superspacer will cost me $252 each.
The standard 5500 he quoted me was $155, he is claiming that his cost on the above specd window it $232 each.
I am getting fed up. why would it cost me $100 more per window?
Is this guy trying to flim-flam me?
Sounds like he is trying to make the 5500 look too expensive so he can pitch his Exclusive window (MI) again.

His initial pricing seems a bit off on the standard 5500.
I would bet that your guess was right.

Can one of you window dudes give me a guess on what I should be paying for a 5500 DH that meets the tax credit req?

Prices can vary quite a bit with region.
You can call a building supply house in your area and they will probably give you a price.
Ask for the Pro-Solar with the super spacer.

My local suppliers will not sell to me directly, or even quote prices to me. They want proof I am licensed.Windows on Washington wrote:Prices can vary quite a bit with region.

I have no other suppliers that sell Simonton windows near me.

Call Simonton directly and ask them where you can buy them.
