Awesome explanation Mike.
@Rafyy, do you have any pics of your own home? The only way to know for sure is with some disassembly as DM said, but we can tell you what is highly likely by seeing an exterior pic.

Re: Install windows WITHOUT capping?
Not necessarily the "interior opening" size to exterior opening size, but the rough opening to the brick. If the brick opening is the same or similar to your rough opening, you can install the windows with the look that you want. This is not as common, but I believe it is found more in som...

Re: the aluminum cladding: based on the website, it appears to be PVC inside and out unless there is another product that I missed?
Secondly, even if there is, I'd avoid it. Vinyl and Aluminum "combo" products have been tried and failed. Just not a good match.

Re: Casement window or slider?
Replacing a twin CA with a SL would actually preserve the current look more than DH's would, however if you are changing to DH's in another area I understand that an aesthetic concern may exist. Regarding the pricing, is that the upcharge? ... If that is what you are paying, obviously this is a DIY ...

Re: Casement window or slider?
+1 to WoW's advice. - Twin Casement: The tightest, but most expensive option - Twin DH: Also a little costly because its two units, and as WoW alluded to, you are losing a fair amount of glass area in that size opening. In addition, while a dh is generally more airtight than a slider (this is true i...

Re: Okna Insultec vs Provia aspect
Good points by WoW above. I'd add the following: - seemingly small differences in the ratings can indicate much larger differences in quality and engineering. Larger differences in this area will mean a greater discrepancy in performance when a window is a year old, 5 years old, 10+ years old, etc. ...

I'm sure they do as its the standard package. It may just be a new sales rep or something like that.

Re: OKNA 5500 (500) Package question - VT rating
Sorry, they use different language for ordering that they do for marketing. LE is the standard double pane, Low-e and argon package. I believe that they refer to that as "Heat Seal", and Heat Seal Deluxe when the foam enhanced frame is added. For your climate this would be the better optio...

1) Great window, nice job finding that. 2) Re: the glass, did you request Sunseal or really emphasize a desire to cut out solar heat as much as possible? Personally I would say that is not the first option that I'd recommend for your location, although it's possible that circumstances could dictate ...

Re: Okna 800 vs SoftLite Elements vs GreatLakes ComfortSmart
The Great Lakes window doesn't belong here. The Okna 800 and Elements are a couple of the top performers out there today and either would serve you well. I prefer the 800 personally with small advantage in performance and strength, and with slimmer lines for more glass area to boot. Get the apples t...

Re: Replacement Window Quotes - Okna, Starmark, Provia, Pela, Andersen, Simonton
A red 86 IROC was my second car, swapped the 305 to a 383 until I blew it up, and my blue 01 z28 may have been my favorite. Also had a blue 75, a pewter 02 Z, a 91 firebird, and a few other firebirds and T/A's peppered in there. As far as windows, great advice from the pros above. Under $1k per unit...

Re: Full Frame Replacement but leave interior frame?
It sounds like they are suggesting to separate the old window frame from the jamb extension to avoid replacing the interior woodwork. This can be done effectively in some cases, however the depth of the current jambs often cause an issue setting the new window at the ideal depth, and if you want nai...
