Re: Signature 8000 Energy Saver vs Simonton
What low end windows have low air infiltration numbers? It seems like those that sell windows with higher air numbers(above .10) say it is not that important as long as the number is under the number of the window they sell. Those that sell windows with low numbers seem to stress the importance of the...

Re: Trying to make sense of all this (replacing windows)
I temper windows that are in the vertical plane of the tub and under 5 feet from the bottom of the tub.If it is to close to call I would temper it.I would probally remove the aluminum from what you're describing.I would search this forum and some others for window brands and get some more quotes.

Re: Kitchen & Bath - Casement vs. Awning vs. Double Hung
The only original DH's that would be easier to open would be an old weight and pulley system that is in very good operating condition, which is rare.

Re: Kitchen & Bath - Casement vs. Awning vs. Double Hung
I would keep all the windows double-hungs.The kitchen window will open a lot easier once it's replaced.I would obscure the whole bath window and leave it the size that it is.It would be a good time to replace your bathroom trim with a pvc trim as well or move it flush with the tile.I would go with f...

Are you sure need to meet egress? In MN the only time I typically need to meet egress is when it is a rental,a state licensed facility, house has code compiance orders, the rough opening has been changed, the foot print of the bedroom has been changed or it is new construction.

I have read some of W&D's post and found nothing to warrant the rude comments regarding W&D's wife.I must of have missed something.

Re: double-hungs and sliding door for small upstate NY house.
Even though you posted on a vinyl window forum you may want to consider a wood window with a clad exterior as well.Don't expect to see much of change in your heating bill unless your windows and doors are big air leakers now.

Homesealed, all I'm trying to say is why consider AI #'s when even most of the cheap windows are within your range.I stand by my comments made in my other post.I am only familiar with Soft-lite from the brands you have listed and i have no problem with them.i can not tell you how much you would save....

Re: Quickly overwhelmed by choices
If you are going to use .01 to .19 as acceptable air infiltration numbers you might as well not consider air infiltration numbers at all.Even most of the cheap windows will have better numbers than .19.What should the guage of the vinyl be?Do the manufactures list the type of vinyl they are using?

I'd say to go with Simonton's if you think the buyer will notice the difference or decide not to buy it because you did not install Simonton's top of the line window.

Re: EPA lead paint policy impact to window replacement project
I would be very happy to get $200 per window. If I only did 10 windows a week at $200 a pop for RRP charges that would come out to $104,000 per year. That is not bad money for a couple 2 or 3 hours a week.

I highly doubt that that the Simonton's would help sell your home unless your selling it to a windowinstaller?distributer. The last thing peope look at are the windows unless they are in bad shape.
