Re: Revere Sovereign vs Vytex Fortis - Worth the difference?
If money is important to you, I guess I don't see the logic in spending $3500 on a product that is widely held in low regard. Sure, $4800 is $1300 more, but we are talking steak vs a mcdouble here. Personally I'd get another quote or two. Those sizes are pretty big. Are these double or triple units ...

Re: Revere Sovereign vs Vytex Fortis - Worth the difference?
+1. and I would not bother with the the Revere. Old design, very bulky, perfomance that is average at best. It does not have a true sloped sill either. Still channels water through the frame.

Re: The Window Store - Nordic Guard - WI
Vista is very average at best. You've probably read enough to get a good feel for Alside. The main thing I'm not crazy about is the sales games. The door to door canvassers mixed with a 3 hour sales pitch is typically a sign of a company that is nothing more than sales and marketing as opposed to so...

Re: Great Lakes Ecosmart Windows - Should I keep looking?
I'm not a fan of the Ecosmart. Not the worst window out there, but the quality of all of the plygem lines has fallen off in recent years in my observation. In addition, it is very bulky, with a big goofy chunk cobbled onto the meeting rail where they have the tilt/lock mechanism. Again, not the wors...

Re: Window world in upstate South Carolina
You have read the universal opinion of WW. Nothing much to add. If the price is on the low end, expect the quality to follow suit.

Saw another post where Zen wouldn't disclose which models they were selling. Maybe that was just an uninformed sales guy. Either way, these are not Softlite's top products.

Local dealers = good
Local manufacturers= ...eehhhhh, not my fav...
You don't need a household name, but I'd like to see a manufacturer with a little bigger footprint and more history than the Vytex. Just my 2 cents. I'd prefer the Sunrise or Okna.

Re: Thermal Industries vs Okna in WI
TI did have a "reorganization" not too long ago. Old design, old technology, average performance at best, and an unstable financial situation (from what I can tell) do not bode well. In a day and age where manufacturers are dropping like flies, I'd be a little scared about that line and an...

J-O-K-E, lol.
The Imperial LS and Okna are on another level in this comparo. The price of the Okna makes it an easy choice.

Re: window caulking
These are all of the new construction framers that lost their union jobs and now do remodeling. Now they aren't just screwing up new construction, but remodeling projects as well. I hired a guy that supposedly installed 15,000 windows, mostly new construction but some remodeling. Guess what he does,...

Good advice from the other guys. Keep everything above board and you should be okay.
I don't think very highly of the 2 windows that you have seen.

Re: Which is the most reliable replacement window on a budget???
People operate shady businesses all of the time, many times undetected for years. Most times what goes around comes around at some point. The other guys are right, even a cheap window can't be installed for that price if things are on the up n up. It doesn't take much to be considered "a busine...

Re: Window suggestion
Sorry, the glass is not fogging on the surface. It appears to be seal failure. I have 10 bad panes. If I had them repaired and then more had the same thing happen I would have to pay to have them fixed. The screens are too tight to raise up without an extreme amount of effort. Some of the screens h...

Just an ultraweld in a fancy package. Fine window, still pretty bulky.
