I have seen pricing on that window nearer the number that you are wanting to get but if you are comfortable with that contractor, that is a plus. I am not sure that your contractor is accurate regarding the necessity of the Super spacer option. Better glass performance is just that, better performan...

Because some of those windows are what we would refer to as...technically speaking..."junk or crap" and others are not.

You pretty much get what you pay for in this arena as most others.

Silverline is viewed as bottom barrel with Ideal being a slightly better product.

I would start over like Sky said. If you like the Sears window, order the Simonton 5500 with the 1" glass pack and jamb liners and you will be just as happy.

Re: does the argon gas disappear?

I was told my a window rep that the air in the spacing in a window is just as good as the gas because over a couple of years the argon gas disappears especially in the hotter climets (i'm in FL). Does anyone agree or disagree? The window he is proposing is manufactured by CWS (Custom Window Systems...

Not necessarily, however, argon is a much better choice and I would avoid a salesman that doesn't tell the truth or know the truth.

Re: Vanguard has some colors

I don't know if they sell in your area. I can't even find color choices on their website. But at a dealer's showroom I saw examples of Vanguard windows in earthtone, sandstone, wood grain. The dealer said that was one of the reasons they carry Vanguard because they give color options. I don't know ...

Vinyl will do fine in your application. The only areas people are typically concerned with is in desert, ie very hot ambient temperatures, climates. The composite product they are referring to is probably just an expanded vinyl composite product which does have some benefits over standard vinyl but ...

Same post as in test section....

Nice window. It has good energy performance number, very thin profiles (ie edge to glass distance) and is pretty well dressed out in a stock format.

If you get it with the duralite spacer, it is an even better window.

do a search on heat mirror and you will learn everything you need to know.

Their noise reduction claim of 85% is probably BS but it technically should block out more sound than a double pane window alone would do.
