RBA

Rebman you haven't done anything wrong by mentioning RBA, it's just that over the course of the past two years there have been some RBA salespeople on the boards, posting as though they are homeowners (researcher & amore125). This deception has created some anger among the regular posters here w...

Good installers will be careful not to damage or cut the alarm wires. My guys will leave the wires inside for the alarm company to re-install once we are finished. Sounds like your installation crew was careless.

Alside is better than Atrium. Alside does make about five different lines of windows though. Which line are you looking at? The Sheffield is their best, followed by the UltraMaxx, the Excalibur and after that you're into low quality products.

Whenever I have used the EPOPS system, the standard DH 5500 shows a DP20 - DP25 rating, and when the sash reinforcement is added, the DP rating jumps to DP50. I haven't seen anything about the plug, but you would know more than I about Simonton windows Bill. My understanding is that the basic Simont...

Simonton Storm Breaker windows are available here for impact resistance as well as a window made by Alside and a few others. As with regular windows, installation is the key. Poor installation will negate the benefits of the windows.

The installers on this site could answer the last question better than I, but my understanding is that the AAMA certification is more legitimate.

The Yankee term was friendly, no insult intended.

While their are things I like better about the Simonton 5500 (lift rail & sill design), for homeowners in the South, who rarely open their windows at all, the Sheffield is my choice for one big reason. 1) DP rating of a Simonton 5500 double hung = DP 20 - 25 DP rating of an Alside Sheffield = DP...

No I don't think the Simonton 5500 windows are worth more than the Alside Sheffield, however, I am also not a fan of Window World. The installation is often poor and sometimes very poor. I do like the Super Spacer upgrade, but it is not critical. If it breaks the budget, forget about it without worr...

Alside Sheffield
Simonton 5500

Chances are, the Schuco windows are not available in your area, and this is just as well. Both of the windows I have listed can be mid grade, or with a few upgrades, high end. Good luck to you.

Generally, the accidental glass breakage warranties exclude tempered or laminated glass. Before you make this part of your decision making process, I would carefully read through the warranty to make sure you are correct on the coverage.

Window4U, while I agree that a pocket sill is a poor design, like the UltraMaxx utilizes, the Sheffield is a really stout window. I had been selling quite a few of the Simonton 5500 windows but began to see too many problems such as bowed sashes and frames as well as scratched glass. Granted, these ...

Good post kidgrock. I'm constantly amazed at how many homeowners let themselves be pressured into signing a contract, and then jump on the internet to make sure they made the right decision AFTER the buying decision. Homeowners would be wise do conduct their research before inviting salespeople into...

Alside make six or seven different lines of window. Which line are you looking at? IMO the Alside Sheffield is a very good window, especially with the optional Super Spacer.

Simonton is a very large manufacturer, and they make some very good windows, some adequate windows, and some poor windows. We would have to know more about the specific windows that you were quoted to give you an honest opinion of the quality and the value. It also helps to know what state your in, ...
